NANAIMO — A trio of charges were recently applied against a man accused of hit and run resulting in the death of a Ladysmith woman.
Steven Roderick Knowles, 39, is charged with dangerous driving causing death, failure to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death and motor vehicle theft.
Knowles was allegedly driving a pickup truck on the morning of Aug. 29 2020 which police say crossed the centre median on the Trans Canada Hwy near Oyster Sto-Lo Rd. and hit a northbound SUV.
The charges were approved by the BC Prosecution Service earlier this month, while Knowles remains in custody at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre in Saanich.
Knowles’ next scheduled court appearance is on Oct. 25 in provincial court in Duncan.
Following the crash, the RCMP confirmed it had made contact with the driver of the pickup prior to him allegedly stealing a getaway vehicle from the scene.
A suspect was arrested several days later.

Knowles has a long criminal record, which includes numerous driving infractions.
Court records showed in West Vancouver Knowles was pulled over about two months after the fatal hit and run and later convicted of dangerous driving.
