NANAIMO — Those wishing to vote by mail for the 2022 municipal election will be able to do so.
Eligible voters in the City of Nanaimo, who meet all regular voting requirements, can request an application to vote by mail by:
- visiting the Legislating Services Department at City Hall on Wallace St.,
- emailing elections@nanaimo.ca, or
- downloading the form from the City of Nanaimo website.
Ballots will be sent to approved applicants after Sep. 23 and must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 8 p.m. on Oct. 15.
Voters bare the responsibility of posting their ballot with the required time for it to be delivered by Canada Post or courier, to City Hall by 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 14.
Ballots can also be hand-delivered to the City Service and Resource Centre on Dunsmuir St. between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on election day.
“Voting by mail gives those residents who are absent from the City of Nanaimo during general voting day and the advance voting opportunities, or those who can’t make it to a voting location, an opportunity to participate,” Sheila Gurrie, Nanaimo chief election officer, said.
General voting day is Saturday, Oct. 15, with candidates able to be nominated for the election since Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Nanaimo voters will elect one mayor and eight city councillors, while similar races for School Board trustee and Regional District director will occur across the region.
