NANAIMO — Some maintenance on natural gas lines in the Nanoose Bay area is having some unpleasant consequences elsewhere.
Complaints to FortisBC and local fire departments skyrocketed early morning on Wednesday, Aug. 28 with a strong smell lingering in the air.
Nanaimo Fire Rescue confirmed via a tweet they had been told Fortis BC is “conducting some venting in the Nanoose Bay area.”
It’s unclear how long the venting will take.
NanaimoNewsNOW has reached out to Fortis BC for additional information.
The smell was reported in most areas north of Nanaimo, along with portions around Woodgrove, Departure Bay, Hammond Bay and Brannen Lake.
More to come.
