Monday, February 19th: Holiday Monday, No Song
Tuesday, February 20th: Stevie Wonder – Sir Duke
February 20th, 1977, Stevie took home a couple of Grammy Awards. Best album with ‘Songs In The Key Of Life’, and Best Vocal performance for ‘I Wish.’ When do we ever hear ‘Sir Duke’ off that album? Not often enough, I say.
Wednesday, February 21st: Paul McCartney – Live and Let Die
This day in 1990, Sir Paul McCartney was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 32nd annual Grammy Awards.
Also in Macca news, his 1961 Höfner 500/1 bass guitar that was stolen in 1972 has been returned!
A grassroots campaign called The Lost Bass Project tracked it down and returned it. Read more about that HERE.
Thursday, February 22nd: Jimmy Buffett – Margaritaville
It’s National Margarita Day! About the Margarita, it’s hard to pin down the origin as MANY lay claim to it. One of the claims goes back to 1936 in Tijuana. There’s also claims it was created in 1938 in honour of a showgirl.
Then some swear it was created in 1941 in Ensenada, other say in 1942! So, it’s hard to say when and where it was actually created. Now today, we celebrate National Margarita Day with – Margaritaville, OBVIOUSLY!
Friday, February 23rd: Aretha Franklin – Until You Come Back To Me
Aretha made history in 1974 when she became the first artist to have songs peak at each of the first 10 spots on the Hot 100.
Incredibly, only an additional four artists have also done this: Marvin Gaye, Madonna, Drake, and Taylor Swift.
