PORT ALBERNI — The Clippers stayed even with the Bulldogs for 40 minutes but couldn’t mount enough of an attack in the third period in a 6-2 loss to the Bulldogs.
Nicholas Beneteau had the only goal of the first period on an Alberni Valley power play.
Early in the middle frame Cole Lonsdale jammed in a loose puck off of a Joel Plante rush to even the score at 1-1.
Brady McIsaac notched a shorthanded goal midway through the period to put the Bulldogs back in front before Michael Murtagh again tied the contest with a power play marker.
Murtagh’s goal was his third period play tally in four games this season.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the third period with a power play goal by Jax Wismer and a rebound effort from Beneteau to put Alberni up by two.
Empty netters from Fischer O’Brien and Lucas Buzziol wrapped up a 6-2 win in the Bulldogs home opener.
Tom Kiesewetter stopped 31 shots in the loss while Alberni Valley’s Callum Tung turned aside 28.
The Clippers were 1/4 on the man advantage and 3/5 killing penalties.
