NANAIMO — A charge of manslaughter has been applied against a man in connection to the death of his girlfriend in Nanaimo in 2021.
The BC Prosecution Service confirmed Kyle Gordon Ordway, 38, was charged with manslaughter in relation to the death of 27-year-old Amy Watts. Police confirmed the charge on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Watts’ body was found in the area of Albert St. and Victoria Cres near City Hall in a steep, wooded ravine on June 3, 2021.
She was reported missing by her family several days earlier.
Ordway was custody prior to the manslaughter charge being laid in relation to separate alleged offences for breaching his release conditions.
He remains in custody but no specific court date has been confirmed for him to begin answering to the manslaughter charge.
Ordway has a long criminal record, which includes crimes of violence and property crimes on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland dating back to 2005.
Nanaimo RCMP reclassified Watts’ death from suspicious to a homicide about two weeks after her body was discovered.
The victim’s mother confirmed to NanaimoNewsNOW her only child was dating Ordway at the time of her death.
