NANAIMO — Air travel between Nanaimo and Edmonton will resume this fall.
Direct, weekly service between the two cities starts Oct. 30 on Monday’s, Friday’s and Sunday’s provided by WestJet Encore.
“Service to Edmonton has been a popular request among our customers. WestJet recognizes the potential and is showing confidence in our airport, and our regional economy, by investing in this route,” Nanaimo Airport president and CEO Dave Devana stated in a news release.
The link allows outbound travelers from Nanaimo to connect to many global destinations via Edmonton International Airport.
Direct air travel between Nanaimo and Edmonton was offered last summer following a several year hiatus.
Direct flights offered at Nanaimo Airport includes service to Vancouver, Calgary and seasonal direct flights to Toronto.
The release stated officials at Nanaimo Airport continue working to secure more routes, noting a five-year capital plan intends to invest millions of dollars in new infrastructure improvements.
