NANAIMO — Two young dancers are doing the Island proud.
Jacksun Fryer, from Nanaimo and his dance partner Carlow Rush, from Duncan, make up the immensely popular duo of Funkanometry. They’ve quickly amassed a large online following through TikTok videos of their dance routines in public spaces.
The pair appeared in a Tuesday, June 7 episode of America’s Got Talent, performing a dance to a medley of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” and Rick James’ “Superfreak” for the panel of judges.
“I have to say I was worried first because you know, when you look on TikTok you have this tiny little screen and now you have this gigantic stage and will it translate? But I think it worked,” Heidi Klum, one of the judges commented after the performance.
Praise was unanimous from the other judges including Howie Mandell, Sofía Vergara and Simon Cowell.
“I loved this audition,” Cowell said. “I think you are fun, original, my only issue was it wasn’t long enough.”
“That was so good on so many levels, you’re in sync together,” Mandell added. “Your faces and your acting and your little storytelling worked, and also your choice of music (was great).”
Funkanometry booked their ticket into the next round of the competition with four ‘yes’ votes from the judges.
No word on when their next performance will be, however they have been keeping fans updated of their progress through the competition on their Instagram page.
