NANAIMO —A driver and lone occupant safety evacuated a fast-moving vehicle fire on the Trans Canada Hwy. near the Nanaimo Airport.
It happened on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at about 10:30 a.m. impacting what’s believed to be a northbound Ford Ranger driven by a woman between Brenton Page and Cedar roads.
North Oyster Volunteer Fire Department lieutenant Fiona Steeves told NanaimoNewsNOW flames were seen shooting from the front portion of the truck.
“When we got there the occupant was out of the vehicle, we had minimal crews available, so I called Ladysmith to bring an engine as well.”
Nobody was injured, while Steeves noted the truck was destroyed.
“It didn’t take too long to extinguish then we made sure that everything was fully out by opening up the hood and getting inside the vehicle and then waiting for a tow to come to remove it,” Steeves said.
While the cause of the fire is not known, Steeves said the source appeared to be from the truck’s engine components.
Traffic was temporarily closed northbound while crews actioned the flames and a tow truck removed the charred vehicle.
